John Thomas McGrath of Eugene died Jan. 23 of age-related causes. He was 80. Viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Jan. 27, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield, and a private family burial service will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
He was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Watertown, Mass., to John and Florence Booth McGrath. He married his wife, Ardyth, on May 18, 1963, in Ramstein, Germany.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1976. He worked for the Oregon State Employment Department from 1978 to 1995 as a veterans’ representative.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Maureen Spence of Eugene; a son, John McGrath of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Florence Larson of Plymouth, Mass., and Alice Morgan of Florida Keys, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
