Robert D. Corben
Robert D. Corben, 86 of Lewistown, Missouri died Saturday, September
18, 2010 at 4:37 AM at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in
Lewistown.
The son of Seth A. and Selna M. Walker Corben was born on December
26,
1923 in Steffenville, Missouri
He was united in marriage to Jamye Ann Burnett on November 2, 1946
in
Monticello, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2002.
Robert was a member of LaBelle Masonic Lodge #222, American Legion
Lewis Co. Memorial Post #578, S.A.C. Elite Guard Assoc. and the
U.S.S.
Wharton Assoc. He was a veteran of World War II and had served as
Mayor of Lewistown, Missouri. He enlisted in the Navy on April 5,
1942
serving in the pacific as a Boatswain mate until 1945. He then
enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946 serving in Security and Law
Enforcement until retiring in 1964.
Robert began his banking career on August 8, 1966 at the Lewistown
State Bank. In February of 1979, he went to work at the Bank of
LaBelle until retiring as Sr. Vice President in 1993 at age 69.
During
this time he began a three year banking course at the University of
Wisconsin School of Banking in Madison. He attended school on campus
for two years each summer and then completed the required home study
to graduate. He also attended the School of Agricultural Banking in
Columbia, Mo. He had also worked for Gardner-Denver.
He is survived by a son, Arnold Corben & wife Teri of Jacksonville,
Arkansas; three daughters, Melissa Lowman & husband Steve of Cabot,
Arkansas, Annette Primm & husband Jim of Lewistown, Mo. and Jennifer
Dillinger & husband Steve of Quincy, Il.; eleven grandchildren and
twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Ila Brocksmith of Quincy, Il.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Lois Zanger
Dodd, grandson, David Corben, four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 2:00
PM
at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown, Mo. with Rev. Rod Webster
officiating with burial in the Lewistown Cemetery. Graveside
military
honors by Lewis County Memorial Post #578 of the American Legion.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4 until 8 PM with the
family greeting friends after 6 at Arnold’s Funeral Home in
Lewistown.
Pallbearers: Robert Zanger, Ryan Primm, Seth Corben, Matthew Lowman,
Gene O’Brien and Theodore Schweitzer.
Honorary Pallbearers: Lorenzo Gnuse and Dean Phillips.
Music: “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden”
