J.Gonzales, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regimen, 2nd Brigade 1st Armored
Division, Bauholder, Germany:
We were
notified by his father Tony, a former member of the SAC Elite Guard that his
only son was killed by a IED on Dec 28 near Sadr City, Iraq, when an
improvised device detonated near his vehicle. To honor TJ's memory I asked
Tony if he would submit a picture of his son so that we can honor him and
his family we also asked him if he would tell us about his son. His picture
and Tony's words are posted in the
Gallery section under the
section recent photos. Please join me in keeping this soldier in our
thoughts and prayers along with mother Marilynn and father Tony. (BM) |

Volunteers: The SAC
Elite Guard is a volunteer organization that can always use volunteers. If
you would like to lend a hand in the following areas your help would be very

Web Site-Server Interruptions: We have been experiencing
server problems of late, whereby you have been unable to access the site in
a usual manner. We are currently investigating changing the server company
for the web site. This should be a seamless operation with little or no

SAC Elite Guard Association Dues: Today you should have
received from our President Bob Lilje a communication by e-mail concerning
the 2009 association dues. A letter was sent to all of our roster personnel
who do not have e-mail addresses. It goes without saying that our membership
dues allows us to complete the projects that we have sponsored in the past
and future plans to honor those who wore the Blue Beret of the SAC Elite
Guard. You donation of money in the form of dues will allow this
organization to continue to thrive and grow. (BM) |

(TSgt Ret) 1932-2008: Ed Dodd, son in law of Billy notified us
that Billy had passed away on Nov 6, five days after his wife Dixie passed.
Many of us will remember him from his lengthy stay as a SAC Elite Guardsman.
His picture taken in front of the "Peace is our Profession" sign became
widely circulated with many stories related to SAC. We have additional
information listed in the Final Honors

Charles
Canny; 1936-2008, SAC Elite Guard Member 1958-1961: We
received word from another member Steve McCoy that Charles Canny had
passed away on Nov 26th in Des Moines Iowa. Charles was a earlier member of
the SAC Elite Guard then known as the "Detachment A". We will miss
Charles as he was an early member of our association and supported our
efforts in recognizing this unique group of Air Policemen/Security
Policemen/Security Forces. Full details will be forthcoming in the

Peter Tierney
1947-2008: SAC Elite Guard Member 1967-1969: I am very sad to
report that another brother has turned in his shield for the final
time. Pete passed away in San Diego Ca this past month and will be
missed by all his friends and brothers who knew him. For those of us
who knew and worked with Pete he was a gentleman who was liked by all and
appreciated for a quick dry sense of humor. Full details can be found

Elite Guard. He now resides in San Antonio TX, where he is involved as

the original members of Detachment "A" later known as the SAC Elite Guard. DeWayne was born in 1933 and died Aug 27th 2007 in Queen City,

When I review each year I note the building history of this fledgling association, the individuals we have located along the way , many who we have regained friendships along with making new ones and the sadness of losing our old friends. Our blotter also tracks the inroads we have made in leaving a permanent footprint of the association through its projects that pay tribute to the men and women who wore the SAC Elite Guard Blue Beret.. I was and still am proud to have been a member of the SAC Elite Guard. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2008 when we meet in Omaha to "Post the Guard" Happy New Year 2008. (BM) |
